Whitehaven’s two French recruits Corentin Le Cam and Cesar Rouge have been recalled by parent club Catalans Dragons.
The French Super League side are having to deal with a spate of suspensions and injuries.so Le Cam and Rouge could be in for first team action.
Both players made two appearances for Whitehaven, most recently Sunday’s excellent draw at Batley. They had joined the West Cumbrians on loan following the international break which saw Rouge start for France.
With the Dragons being hampered with injuries and suspensions ahead of Super League’s Magic Weekend the pair have returned to Perpignan.
Head coach Jonty Gorley said: “It’s been quite a fast process with Cesar and Corentin. We’d just received confirmation off Alex Chan that he was sorting the paperwork out for them both to stay for the rest of the season, then Ashley got a call to say Catalan needed all their loan players back, as they’ve got injuries and suspension to deal with.
“Both Cesar and Corentin integrated brilliantly at Whitehaven and you could see that they have got some talent and a great future in front of them.
“It’s unfortunate their stay with us has been cut short because they were doing us a job and gaining experience at the same time. I hope they both do well in their quest to be established SL players.”
Director Ashley Kilpatrick said “ We’re disappointed to lose Cesar and Corentin as they were just starting to get used to how we play and our structures. However we understand why they are being recalled as the Dragons have had an injury crisis and lost three players to suspension so are needed back in France.
“They are two brilliant lads on and off the field and we wish them both the best.
“I’d like to go on record in thanking Steve McNamara and Alex Chan for their help. Alex has been brilliant to deal with and he has been top class from start to finish, especially sorting the lads’ visas out and going through that process with us and advising all the way on dealing with Brexit etc.”
