Three boys have been arrested after ‘significant damage’ was caused by vandals to Penrith Cricket Club.

The boys, aged 12 and 13 and from the Penrith area, were arrested for burglary and criminal damage following the vandalism on Tuesday morning.

Eden police said the three youths have been bailed while they conduct inquiries.

Rocks were reported to have been used to destroy glass outdoor patio tables and damage was also caused to a sight screen and practice netting following a forced entry into a portable building at the town’s Tynefield Park cricket club.

A Cumbria police spokesman said: “Police were called at 10.47am on July 5 to the report of criminal damage and a suspected burglary at Penrith Cricket Club premises. The incident occurred in the early hours, before 2am, and involved a group of youths. The damaged caused is extensive.

“We share the club and community’s feelings of disappointment and frustration at this mindless act. The incident is being actively investigated by officers.

“There will be people out there who have information relating to this incident, including the details of those involved. We are appealing to those people to come forward and report anything you know. No matter how insignificant you think the information may seem.”

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact police via www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it or call 101.To report information anonymously, contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
