Battle of the postcodes for Masters rugby league

Masters rugby league is set to unveil a unique event on Saturday at Arlecdon.

It’s their version of the famous State of Origin showdown which regularly grips Australian rugby league enthusiasts.

Facing up on Saturday are two senior line-ups representing the two post codes of Cumbria – CA v LA.

The active teams in the CA postcode – Arlecdon Rams, Carlisle Masters and Aspatria Masters are joining forces to form an 18-strong squad.

They will be opposed by players from Barrow Masters and Hindpool Masters to form the LA postcode squad.

Ian Johnson is the area representative for Cumbria on the RFL Masters committee and he said he was excited about the project.

He said: “The State of Origin idea has never happened before in Masters rugby league and  I thought it would be great for Cumbria.

“There’s so much banter goes on between the lads from South Cumbria and the other Cumbrian teams it was a natural to organise.

“It will be a great game and played with plenty of pride as well as massive smiles on both teams’ faces.”

Special new kits have been designed for the game and the action at Arlecdon starts at 2pm.
