Students at Carlisle College have been recognised for their outstanding achievements and dedication.
It was the first time in over two years that the event was able to go ahead in person due to COVID-19.
Sarah McGrath, principal, said, “The commitment and dedication shown by our learners has been outstanding and it is therefore fitting to recognise their achievements.
“We have learners who have been nominated for awards not just because they have or will achieve, but because they have excelled.”
The event was sponsored by Persimmon Homes and award categories were supported by the University of Cumbria, Carlisle City Council, Pirelli, Pioneer Foodservice, Thomas Graham and David Allen.
Geoff Brown, a construction director at Persimmon Homes, said: “We’re proud to work closely with Carlisle College and were delighted to sponsor this year’s awards. It was fantastic to join learners, parents and tutors in celebrating the hard work and dedication of apprentices and students at the college.”
As the main sponsor of the evening, Geoff Brown had the honour of presenting the overall Learner of the Year Award and the overall Apprentice of the Year Award as the finale to the evening.
Lizzie Templeton was named Apprentice of the Year. An apprentice with Cumbria County Council, she was recognised for being an excellent student on the accounting programme and an asset to her employer. It was also noted that she flew the flag for future apprentices as part of her apprentice ambassador role within the workplace.
Intro PR, based in Carlisle, was awarded Employer of the Year, recognising the support and proactive contribution it has provided to the curriculum as well as welcoming staff in for industry-based days.
Apprentice Employer of the Year was presented to David Allen IT Solutions, which was recognised for its ongoing support, mentoring and on-site training offered to their apprentices and the supportive network they provide.
The event was supported by Carlisle College’s catering and hospitality students, who provided a buffet for around 80 guests.
