Cumbria Wildcats are making progress in their efforts to relaunch an American football team in the south of the county.
Another taster session at Kendal Rugby Union club at the weekend was well attended as membership builds up.
Organiser David Hughes said: “Sunday’s session went particularly well. We had lots of adults and kids, with a good number of newcomers which was encouraging.
“We went through different tackling drills and catching and have arranged another session for this Sunday, again at Mint Bridge, from 11am to 1pm.”
The area used to have three teams – Carlisle Kestrels, Furness Phantoms and Morecambe Bay Storm – but all became defunct during the pandemic.
The aim is to be accepted as an associate member of the British American Football Association next year and play three or four games when the club would be rated on how they were run, how many players they had and whether they could be accepted into the League.
David said: “That hopefully would be Division Two in the North region for 2024 but we have to be sure there are enough players to be able to compete next year as an associate member.”
