Two sisters will push their open water limits by attempting three back-to-back swims in the Lake District.

Helen Smith and Hayley Brant will swim Windermere, Ullswater and Coniston Water over three days, a distance of 24 miles.

The sisters, who lost their 12-year-old nephew to suicide, will be raising money for the national charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide and the British Heart Foundation.

They will arrive in Cumbria this weekend ahead of their first swim across Windermere on Monday. They will then swim Ullswater the following day and end their challenge by swimming Coniston Water on Wednesday,

Previously their longest swim was across the English Channel.

“This will be a bit longer so we are swimming into the unknown. It’s a back-to-back challenge and we are really looking forward to it,” said Helen, of Hertfordshire.

“The catalyst was the death of our younger sister, Heather, who had a heart condition and then the suicide of her son Charlie, our nephew. We hope to create a legacy for them and raise money to help others.”

For practical, confidential suicide prevention help and advice contact PAPYRUS HOPELINEUK on 0800 068 4141, text 07860 039967 or email [email protected]
