Tomorrow’s National Conference fixture at Seaton is more than just a vital game for both teams.
It’s a special occasion for the Seaton club as a whole because the day is dedicated to their chosen charity Jack’s Journey.
One-off shirts bearing the charity logo are being worn in the game against Oldham St Anne’s and will then be auctioned off afterwards.
Jack’s Journey has been dedicated to seven-year-old youth team player Jack Gibson who was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Seaton chairman Peter Gilmour said: “It’s a huge day and the chance to raise money for a fantastic cause.
“Two of our committee, Les Smallwood and Michael Heron came up with the idea for the day. We have 28 tops to auction off and a reserve price of £60 on them.
“After the game we’ve entertainment on in the club from singer guitarist Douglas Decker and to get in all we’re asking is for people to make a donation and purchase a Jack’s Journey wristband.”
Jack, who has been given the all clear after the cancer was first diagnosed in 2016, is described as a promising fearless centre with a deceptive side-step.
Jack’s Journey was founded by parents Andrew and Sam after an initial fundraising cycle ride between West Cumbria and Newcastle.
Jack had spent time at the Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary and that first ride across the country, west to east was undertaken by Andrew, his brother Matthew and four friends to raise money for charity CLIC Sargent.
Young Lives versus Cancer is an operating name of CLIC Sargent.
After that first cycle ride, Jack’s Journey was born and was adopted this year as the Seaton club’s chosen charity.
Chairman Gilmour said: “The strips are really smart and unique. They have the players’ names on and an NCL Heritage number which we are giving to individual players.”
The match between third-placed Seaton and St Anne’s, who are fourth, kicks off at 2.30pm.
