What would you buy with £3.6 million? Suggestions for our latest Cumbrian lottery winners!

Helen and Lee Kuchczynski

After a South Cumbrian couple scooped up a £3.6 million lotto win this morning, our minds wandered to the age old question of “what would you buy if you won?”

Helen and Lee Kuchczynski, of Milnthorpe, picked up their cheque this morning in Morecambe and to celebrate, Helen bought a house.

But houses, cars and holidays aside, we set out to find what you could really buy if you were going to go all out with the jackpot.

We rounded up everything from England’s most remote house, to an obnoxious number of biscuits, that all fall within the jackpot-winning budget.

Skiddaw House in Bassenthwaite

Skiddaw House

For a measly £1.5 million, you could purchase Skiddaw House, the most remote house in England.

Situated in 3.45 acres and 1,500 feet above sea level, this stunning property if only accessible by foot or 4×4 vehicle.

The house is a 19th century shooting lodge and has been used over the years as a gamekeeper’s lodge, shooting cabin, shepherd dwelling, schools field centre, ramblers bothy and currently a youth hostel, that boasts six bedrooms.

Cumbria’s major football teams

Barrow AFC

With £3.6 million in the bank, you could easily buy Barrow’s squad or if you prefer, Carlisle United’s squad.

In December last year, transfermarket.co.uk estimated that the market value of Barrow AFC’s squad was £2.52 million – while Carlisle United was worth £1.96 million.

If that’s a little rich for your blood, you could pay for the full works of sponsorship covering everything from kit and in stadium sponsorship to hospitality packages at Barrow AFC.

It would cost you over £23,950 to do, and packages include the dugout sponsor at £5,000, which would get you a logo on both dugouts, a photo opportunity, hospitality for one game and 10 complimentary tickets for a game of your choice.

If that’s not enough, you could opt for their biggest opportunity to sponsor the entire stadium, which would give you exclusive naming rights to the stadium, exposure throughout national and local media and all official club channels, exposure on all season & match day tickets, three advertising boards one full page programme advert for the season, 10 hospitality places and 10 complimentary tickets to any home game for a price only available on request.

Over 800,000 packets of McVitie’s Ginger Nuts

Ginger nut biscuits

If you were the lucky winner to scoop the jackpot, you could buy exactly 833,333 200g packets of McVitie’s Ginger Nuts for just one million.

The McVitie’s factory in Carlisle makes millions of biscuits each year including the famous Ginger Nut, so you’d be close to depriving the nation if you chose to spend the entirety of your winnings on them.

Fancy a castle?

Dornoch Castle

Helen may have already found her dream house, but you could buy a Scottish castle with your winnings for – only – £2.5 million.

Cumbrian estate agents David Britton is marketing the 22-bedroom Dornoch Castle in the Highlands, currently operating as a hotel. It also has a distillery in the grounds.
