A Lake District post office has closed this week.
The Post Office, based at Norbrock House, Bampton, near Haweswater, was set to shut at noon yesterday, July 27, following the resignation of its postmaster.
A Post Office spokesman said: “The postmaster for Bampton has resigned and the branch is due to temporarily close today at noon.
“We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are working hard to try to restore service as soon as possible.”
The role has been advertised and an outreach Post Office is also being considered – where a nearby postmaster provides the service at a location in Bampton.”
In the meantime, customers are reminded there are alternative branches nearby, including Shap or Askham mobile.
- Shap Post Office, Manchester House, Shap, CA10 3NL, open Monday to Friday: 5am-5pm; Saturday: 5am-12.30pm.
- Askham Mobile Post Office, Askham Community Village Hall, Car Park, Askham, CA10 2PG, open Tuesday: 1.45pm–2.05pm
