Workington Town may have their backs to the wall, but intend to come out fighting!

The Town board have been outlining long-term plans which they plan to deliver with the help of the local community.

They include the formation of a ladies team, developing Town’s Community Trust and the establishment of a youth development programme.

The club has stressed that it really needs help and support to deliver these plans, and others it has in the pipeline.

But one encouraging feature of this latest financial crisis is that this is the fourth board statement almost in as many days.

Fans have been pleased to receive regular updates and many are asking for a public meeting in which the board can revisit their plans and also explain how the club got into this mess in the first place.

Meanwhile the latest statement said: “During a difficult period, the board wanted to provide a further, more positive update, to give our amazing supporters and community a taste of what longer term plans are being discussed, which the club really needs help and support to deliver.

“There are various plans afoot for people to get more involved with Workington Town RLFC, now and in the future, and below are some of the components of the strategic plan which will see the club truly integrate into the community, providing we are able to achieve financial stability.

“Look towards a new sustainable community stadium in partnership with Workington AFC in 2024/5.

“Further develop The Workington Town RLFC Community Trust by employing a co-ordinator and linking specialist staff with club coaches, players to provide positive impact and  better quality of life in schools, care homes, hospitals and more;

“Introduce a ladies Rugby League team, aspiring to be in the Super League by the time we enter the new build stadium.

“Further to that we are looking for Ladies Shirts Partnerships – we’re inviting interested parties to get in touch to discuss. Introduction of a youth development system.

“Community Stadium Partnership – the chance for a company to have the Derwent Park Stadium named after it.

“Improved Fan Zone experience with improved event marquee – and again an opportunity for a company to have the area of the stadium named after them.

“The board would like to hear from current partners and any other interested parties getting involved and also from those wishing to support in a financial capacity.

“Together we can achieve our aims and make a sustainable difference to our area!”
