West Cumbrian Craig Cook might be forced out of Monday’s British Final at Belle Vue after being injured at Edinburgh last night.
Cook, a former winner of the title, picked up hip, hand and thumb injuries in a first heat crash riding for Glasgow.
Indeed all three riders hurt in the pile-up withdrew from the meeting which saw Edinburgh overcome local rivals Glasgow 50-40 at Armadale.
Home duo Sam Masters (shoulder) and Lasse Fredriksen (hand) along with Tigers number one Cook were all ruled out of the meeting.
The home side led by just two points after Heat 13 but wrapped things up with two 5-1s, securing the win on the night thanks to Paco Castagna and Jformer Workington rider James Sarjeant in Heat 14 and then adding another maximum in the last.
Castagna and Josh Pickering both racked up 15+1 for the hosts, whilst another former Comet Ulrich Ostergaard scored 13+1 for the Tigers.
Monarchs boss Alex Harkess said: “It was a disastrous start for both teams, the last thing anyone wanted.
“But I was very pleased with the way our guys pulled together, all five of them did well really. Paco Castagna is full of confidence now, and the reserves came up with important points.”
Also last night Scunthorpe’s Zaine Kennedy was airlifted to hospital for observation after an horrific crash at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The Championship Jubilee League match against Redcar was held up for nearly an hour, as medical staff attended to Kennedy, who flew over the fence after lifting on the exit of the second bend of Heat 11.
The initial diagnosis was that he appears to have miraculously escaped major injuries, with observation required on a possible injury to the pelvis.
The Australian had scored 9+1 prior to the crash, and the Scorpions then closed out a 50-40 win with Ryan Douglas (14+1) scoring a paid maximum and former Workington rider Tero Aarnio making a successful return with 11+1.
Ex-Workington rider Charles Wright (13) and Lewis Kerr (10) reached double figures for the Bears.
