A teenager was found with a serious head injury on a busy Carlisle road in the early hours.

He was found on Wigton Road, between the Caldewgate roundabout and junctions of Granville Road and Stanhope Road, at around 4.15am today, July 31.

In his late teens, he was taken to the city’s Cumberland Infirmary for treatment.

Officers are appealing for witnesses that may have seen the teen, who was wearing a black jumper, navy jeans and black trainers. It is believed he travelled from town via Castle Way.

Wigton Road continues to be closed while enquiries are ongoing by police to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting incident number 54 of 31st July 2022 or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
