Duchess Ava gets back to winning ways

Duchess Ava with James and Ava

After the plentiful supply of hounds for Tuesday’s look round at Birkett Field, numbers dropped considerably last night at Cold Fell.

A lot of owners and trainers had given their dogs a prep and scouting mission over the Threlkeld course so four races attracted only 22 entries.

The seniors and the open maidens both had seven while the pups and the open restricted drew only four each.

In the seniors the long-standing table leader Duchess Ava got back to winning ways for James McClelland, beating Huntsman’s Quartz.

She is now on eight wins, two in front of her nearest rivals Huntsman’s Que and Hunter’s Flame.

Foxparke Beep Beep won for the Napier kennel in the puppy trail, beating Alan Blacklock’s Busy Again and James McClelland’s other runner Huntsman’s Rascal.

Beep Beep now goes joint third in the puppy championship with Silver Streak but some way behind leaders Huntsman’s Rebel.

The open maiden race went to Debbie and Lana McGee’s Apache Raider with Zack and Jake Green’s Green Flyer in second place.

The final race for the open restricted saw Alan O’Fee’s Barncroft Express beating Oakbank Izzy from Kendal to round off a good night for the favourites.
