A man in his 90s was involved in a collision just moments after he left his broken down car on the A66.

Jack Buckingham, of Penrith, was involved in the collision near Stainton on Friday.

Mr Buckingham was walking when he was involved in the collision with a Skoda Fabia at Baron’s Hill.

He has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment. Police issued a statement yesterday saying Mr Buckingham had died.

The driver of the Skoda, a man in his 80s, from Buxton was uninjured.

Police have issued an appeal for a driver of a white DAF Skip HGV carrying a green and yellow skip and the driver of a white minibus containing a Scouts group who may be able to help investigators.

Officers would also like to speak to any motorists who may have seen the collision.

Through the police, the family said they wanted to extend their thanks to everyone at the scene who gave their help and support, in particular, the driver who assisted Mrs Buckingham at the scene.

Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it quoting incident number 67 August 5 2022 or phone 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
