A man has admitted threatening his mother with a pair of scissors during an incident in Workington.

Jason Brian Cogan, 35, entered guilty pleas to two offences when he appeared in front of a judge at Carlisle Crown Court this morning.

Cogan admitted a charge of threatening a person with a bladed article in a private place — a property at Udale Court — in such a way there was an immediate risk of physical harm to the woman involved, his mother.

He further admitted resisting a female police constable. Both crimes were committed on May 21 this year.

Cogan’s case was adjourned by Judge Richard Archer, who opted not to order a probation service pre-sentence report due to a separate progress report already being available to the court.

Judge Archer told Cogan, of Duke Street, Whitehaven, that all options would be considered when he is punished, with a provisional date of September 20 set for the sentencing hearing.

In the meantime, Cogan was told that he will remain remanded in custody.
