A popular international market is set to return to Carlisle later this month.
The event will include arts, crafts, plants and gifts, plus stalls from local traders.
For food lovers, there will be a selection of continental and international flavours to sample, including Spanish Paella, Greek Gyros, a new Greek vegan deli serving a lot of tasty treats, Chinese, Indian, Polish, German, and other exotic street foods. There will also be a great selection of fresh foods including olives, British cheeses and chutneys, cakes, salami and pick and mix sweets.
The new Box Bar will also be on site serving cold beers and other beverages.
Organised by Market Place Europe, the award-winning market will be in the city from Thursday August 25 to Monday August 31.
Andy Pidgen, Market Place Europe’s operations manager, said: “Carlisle is a special place for Market Place Europe and the warm welcome we receive from local people and visitors alike is always amazing, it’s always great that so many local Carlisle and Cumbrian traders join us alongside our fantastic international traders, there is always something for everyone to enjoy at this fantastic market in the wonderful city of Carlisle.”
An ancient proclamation will be recited at the Market Cross on Saturday, August 27 at 10am. The proclamation is a declaration of Carlisle City Council’s rights to hold an annual fair in August, originally granted to the citizens of Carlisle in 1352 by Edward III.
A procession including the mayor of Carlisle Mike Mitchelson, sword and mace bearers and other civic dignitaries will make its way from St Cuthbert’s Church to the Market Cross in the city centre.
