Plans are afoot to breathe new life into a former restaurant in Arnside.
Crossfield’s would open at 8am every day, serving breakfast and lunch, plus offer drinks and meals in the evenings.
It would open in the former Gado Gado café and restaurant in The Promenade.
Permission for a change of use from a restaurant to a ‘drinking establishment with expanded food provision’ is now being sought from South Lakeland District Council.
The application has been submitted by Matt Jackson, of Lancaster-based Lakes and Bay Bar Co Ltd. The company has acquired a seven-year-plus lease on the premises.
A planning statement submitted in support of the application says no televisions or live music are proposed.
“Whilst the premises contains sufficient toilets for customers, it is proposed to install disabled and baby-changing facilities,” it says. “The application proposals represent a significant investment in the building by a recognised and respected local company, with a view to enhancing its attraction, offer and bringing wider benefits to the local area.
“The proposals will significantly enhance the vitality of the local area.”
The statement says the site was Crossfield’s grocers in the 19th and 20th centuries.
