Jim Nichols has been studying West Allotment Celtic’s FA Cup hammering by Workington looking for clues ahead of their clash in the North East.
Reds boss Danny Grainger sent his pal Nichols a video recording of Workington’s 7-0 Cup victory.
“It’s been useful and I hope we can work on one or two things spotted in that game,” he said.
Not so pleasant viewing was his own City side’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat at home to Goole Town.
“I thought at the time it was a game we could have won if we had been at our best, but for whatever reason we didn’t produce the form we’ve been showing in the League so far.
“If we had applied ourselves as we have been then it was there to be won. At this level if your team is up for it and work hard you will win matches.
“There again if you don’t defend your own box and you don’t take your chances at the other end you don’t win football matches – and that was what happened on Saturday.
“I’m hoping we can pick up from where we left off in the League at West Allotment to put ourselves in good heart for our FA Vase game on Saturday at Padiham.
“I was a bit surprised about what Danny told me about West Allotment but it’s a team I haven’t come up against much since I joined Carlisle City.”
Sam Cable had put Goole ahead after only eight minutes but Sam Atkinson pulled City level just before half-time.
However goals from Cable (51) and Nathan Perks (59) pushed Goole into a 3-1 lead.
An own goal from Josh Dacre 10 minutes from the end gave City hope but they were unable to get level.
