Darren Edmondson has turned to experience to bolster his young squad ahead of Penrith’s home game with Northallerton.
Kyle May and Grant Davidson, both former Penrith players, have re-signed for the Frenchfield club in a bid to shore up the defence and provide much-needed experience.
May, who made a club record number of appearances for Workington before a spell as player manager at Penrith, starred under Edmondson with the Reds.
Davidson had seven seasons at Penrith during which time he won numerous Player of the Season awards and was club captain.
Edmondson said: “We need some leadership, experience and characters in the squad to help the young lads and I’m sure they will.
“The application and attitude was better at Guisborough and we played well to take the lead through Connor Shields early in the second-half.
“They scored a late goal to beat us and the lads were gutted. But that’s the way of football – when you’re down you get kicked and kicked again.
“The only way is up now but starting against Northallerton if we show the same application and attitude we will be close.
“There are some good young players in the squad who I am hoping will benefit from the addition of Kyle and Grant.”
Guisborough denied Penrith a valuable away point when they scored a winner four minutes from the end.
It’s a big game for both teams. Penrith (3pts) have four teams below them, including Northallerton (1pt).
