There were trails over the weekend at Rusland Show and Wythop with contrasting entries.
The Show meeting staged five trails but they were contested by just 22 runners.
Five was the maximum for both the seniors and the open restricted while the other three races only had four in each.
By contrast Sunday’s four-trail meeting at Wythop had 100 runners.
Starting at Rusland the numbers might have been low but there were five good trails enjoyed by the crowd.
In the seniors Denis Peare and Jackie Gill’s Miterdale Duchess came clear of Jenny’s Oracle.
In the pups second-in-the-table Ned’s Gain ended a barren spell with a win for Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson, finishing clear of Miterdale Shade for the Steel family.
The open maiden race was won by Ian Bell’s Howgill Meg from Kendal who beat Amber Bay, owned by Norman and Lynne Brown of Barrow,
The Steel family completed a one-two in the open restricted with Miterdale Honesty beating kennelmate Miterdale Favour.
The Steels completed a good afternoon with another win in the veterans race where Miterdale Shadow beat some stiff competition from General James and Hawkswood.
In the points competition General James stays out in front on 38 closely followed by Hawkswood on 36.
Miterdale Shadow, with that win is now third on 32 points – looking to add a third championship to his collection after previously winning the pups and the seniors.
The weather was certainly much improved for Sunday’s meeting at Wythop where the good turn-out provided some excellent racing.
In the seniors Denise Bland Jenny’s Quest came from second place to beat Brian Graham’s Reebok in a field of 26.
The Bland kennel completed the double in the puppy trail after a really exciting finish.
Table leader Huntsman’s Rebel has been back in the field on her last two runs but this time showed exceptional speed to get up and win.
Foxparke Beep Beep had shown with the lead until the Bland kennel star came with a late rattle down the hill to get up a yard from the tape.
Brian and Joy Lister’s Lady Million has been running really well recently and was expected to feature.
When she did come in late it was reported that she and another youngster had got wrong on the trail or else she would have been in contention.
The open maiden race was won by Gillian Todd’s Trinket who finished clear of Nicola McMaster’s Silver Dancer.
The last race of the afternoon was the open restricted where Stuart Smith’s Prospect Spring hung on from a fast finishing Eagle Rock owned by Mark, Joshua, Georgina Bryden and Linda Neale.
