Gretna FC 2008 have signed the former Carlisle United midfielder Dylan McGeouch on a two-year deal.
The 33-year-old has a wealth of experience in the Scottish Premiership, English Football League and international football.
A product of the Celtic Academy, McGeouch broke into the first team as a teenager and was part of two Scottish Premiership title-winning squads before gaining valuable experience on loan with Coventry City.
He went on to enjoy a hugely successful spell with Hibernian, where he helped the Edinburgh club lift the 2015/16 Scottish Cup, ending a 114-year wait for the famous trophy, before winning the 2016/17 Scottish Championship as Hibs secured promotion back to the Premiership.
His performances earned him a move to Sunderland, with further spells at Aberdeen, Forest Green Rovers, Carlisle United and, most recently, Ballymena United.
Throughout his career, Dylan has competed at the highest levels of Scottish football, featured in European competition and represented Scotland at senior international level, earning two international caps.
Gretna chairman Nikki White said: “After weeks of positive talks, we’re thrilled to have finally got the deal over the line. Dylan brings a commanding presence – the kind that fills a room the moment he walks in – and he will instantly command the respect of everyone at the club.
“His tremendous enthusiasm and energy will rub off on both our coaching staff and our young players, and we’re excited to see the positive impact he’ll have both on and off the pitch over the next two years.”
First team manager Vinnie Parker added: “Dylan arrives with an outstanding footballing CV and a career that speaks for itself. At 33, he is in excellent physical condition and he brings a level of professionalism that will lift the standards across the squad.
“His quality on the ball, experience of performing at the highest level and desire to continue competing make him an outstanding addition for Gretna. I am particularly excited about the impact he will have on our younger players, learning from him every day on the training pitch and seeing first-hand the standards he sets.
“Within minutes of meeting Dylan, you can see just how positive, driven and enthusiastic he is about the game. Those qualities are infectious, and they will benefit everyone around him. We are all absolutely delighted to have him on board for the next two seasons.”
