Having enjoyed the euphoria of a penalty shoot-out win, Barrow experienced the flip-side last night when they lost to Lincoln City.
The Bluebirds got through the first round at Blackpool on penalties after a 0-0 draw but could not repeat the trick as they lost the spot-kick deciders 3-1.
Much of the drama before the shoot-out had come late in the game before it went straight to penalties.
Ben Whitfield had fired Barrow in front on 87 minutes but in a pulsating finish Jordan Garrick grabbed the equaliser in the second minute of the five added on.
If Garrick had been the toast of Lincoln for his effort then it was goalkeeper Jordan Wright who took over the mantle in the shoot out.
He saved penalties from Gordon, Patrick Brough and Robbie Gotts to set up the 3-1 win to take Lincoln through to the third round.
Lincoln had taken an early lead when Anthony Scully struck a fine, curling shot beyond Paul Farman in the eighth minute.
Debutant David Moyo levelled fir Barrow five minutes later and then missed a great opportunity to give the home side the lead.
Barrow also went close through Billy Waters and John Rooney who were both denied by the impressive Wright.
There weren’t many opportunities for either side in an even second-half until Whitfield popped up on the end of a Gordon cross and Barrow seemed to be edging home. But Garrick spoiled the party with his first goal for the club to send the tie into penalties.
