In the end it didn’t come down to points differential – even though Distington hammered Lowca 84-10.
Distington were crowned Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL Premier Division champions after collecting the two points for winning the game.
The CARL rulebook says titles will be settled on head-to head League results between the relevant teams and not points differential.
Well it did in a way because both sides won their home game – Ellenborough triumphed 12-10 in mid-week while earlier in the season Distington scored a 22-0 victory – thereby taking the title 32-12 on aggregate.
At half-time Distington led 28-10 and the game was still just about a contest, but in the second half they pulled asway to score 56 unanswered points.
They finished with 15 tries as both man of the match Liam McNicholas and Troy Armstrong completed hat-tricks while Scott Rooke, Tyrone Dalton and Deaton Askew each contributed a brace.
The other touchdowns came from Kie Worthington, Aiden Worthington and Damien Blacklock. Kie Worthington converted 11 and Askew one.
The Lowca tries were scored by Dean Haile and Luke Stockton with one conversion by Jamie Scott. Tony Hetherington was their man of the match.
The Division One top four play-offs should be played this Friday but Egremont A have already said they will not be able to field a team so Ellenborough A go through to the final where they will play the winners of Kells A v Seaton A.
