A woman has been sentenced by a judge after her dog savaged a party guest.
Carlisle Crown Court heard how the event took place at the home of 25-year-old Courtney Kirkbride on July 25 last year.
There was a group of people drinking, and an XL Bully dog called Pablo got involved. It came into the kitchen, bit the arm of a woman and dragged her through the house.
The victim remembered there being lots of blood, said prosecutor Tim Evans, who also told the court: “It is an unpleasant injury and scarring remains.”
Kennelling fees for the animal since the incident had been in the region of £5,000.
Kirkbride, of Latrigg Road, Whitehaven, admitted being in charge of a dog which caused injury while dangerously out of control. She also pleaded guilty to assaults on three emergency workers — police officers — following a separate incident in April this year.
Kirkbride had become aggressive. She kicked one officer in the chest, tried to bite another on the arm and was also violent towards a third.
Kim Whittlestone, giving mitigation, said the dog had initially been well behaved at the party but had bitten the woman after an argument broke out and Kirkbride tried to intervene.
Kirkbride was a young woman with numerous difficulties but had been complying well with a community order imposed for an affray which predated the dog incident. Judge Ian Unsworth QC imposed a new community order, which will run for 12 months, and includes up to 25 rehabilitation sessions. “That means you will get the help you need,” the judge told Kirkbride.
