Egremont fancier David Harrison produced a fine performance on Saturday to take the first four positions in the West Cumbria Amalgamation.

Racing from Cannock the birds were liberated at 10.15am and David clocked his winner at 1.04pm following the 138-mile fly. He clocked all four inside 13 seconds and they were doing 53mph.

The winner is a blue cock Ceuster bred in the stock loft which has has scored now on three occasions to show potential and consistency.

He’s of Donkere Leo and Goede Rode bloodlines so clearly has some quality genes in there.

The second bird was a mealy cock bred in the racing loft, another Ceuster again with the Donkere Leo and Mealy Staf genes most prominent in this one.

The grandsire is a 2018 rung making a name for himself in the stock loft having bred winners each year with different hens for David and friends in the Gateshead Federation.

It was a special win, too, as Workington Victoria fancier Les Cape and his wife Sylvia had put up a prize in memory of their son Michael, who had died at a tragically young age last year. They had donated £100 and a specially inscribed watch.

The West Cumberland Federation lofts dominated the Amalgamation result sheet with the Derwent Valley Federation winners Martindale and Lawman in ninth place.

Loft manager David Fitzwilliam with George Lawman and Richard Martindale and the Derwent Valley Fed winner from Cannock.

They are familiar names at the top of the sheet and the sire of their latest winner is also making a name for himself in the partners’ stock loft.

The blue white flight cock is off a Bulck cock called Balboa who has already sired first and third Cumbria Combine Marlborough and 5th asnd 8th Combine this year in old bird racing plus winners for other lofts.

His nest-mate was also 7th Amalgamation this week for the Dobson family of Cleator Moor.

The Amalgamation birds are at Cannock again this weekend but officials have decided to race on Friday because of poor weather forecasts for Saturday. The birds will be marked on Thursday night.
