Organisers of a major new West Cumbrian festival have said the event will go ahead, despite the death of the Queen.
The committee behind Whitehaven Alive – taking place today and tomorrow at Whitehaven habourside and the stadium at Hensingham – said it had been a difficult decision whether to call it off.
Chris Moyles is set to play tonight and Scouting for Girls tomorrow at the stadium, plus stalls and attractions on the harbourside.
They said: “All at Whitehaven Alive are immensely saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts – and the thoughts of people across the United Kingdom – are with Her Majesty’s family at this time.
“Following careful consideration, this weekend’s events will still be going ahead. We will pay tribute and show our respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II both on the harbour and at both concerts on Friday and Saturday.”
They added that ticket holders with outstanding queries are asked to email the customer service team [email protected]
