A Cumbrian fish and chip shop has been named among the best in the UK.

Angel Lane Chippie in Penrith has made it to the top 40 of the takeaway category in the National Fish and Chip Awards.

Businesses which made the shortlist had to prove to judges that they had high levels of knowledge of the industry, including customer service, and environmental and sustainably good practices.

Owner Dan Harding said: “We are over the moon to have reached this stage in the awards.”

Andrew Crook, president at The National Federation of Fish Friers said: “Being able to announce the top 40 finalists for this category is an absolute pleasure. It is no secret that the industry are facing some challenges.

“That said, this industry is built upon British stoicism. And with spirit and determination we are committed to supporting our members and seeing through tough times.”

Angel Lane Chippie needs your vote to be in with a chance of being crowned the best in the UK. Visit here to vote – you have to register before you are allowed to vote.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London in February.
