A nice crowd and some good weather made Eskdale Show perfect for some hound trailing entertainment with five trails being staged.
The senior hounds was won by Miterdale Dusk for Sophie Steel, beating home another title challenger Kirkhead Rebel for Roy Laidler.
That win puts Miterdale Dusk joint third in the senior table alongside Jenny’s Quest and Miterdale Duchess, who could only manage third place. Table leader Duchess Ava wasn’t running.
In the senior maidens the Napier family were celebrating again when Foxparke Parma Violet got home ahead of Tony Jackson’s Kinniside Jacko.
There were 13 open pups but table leader Huntsman’s Rebel and in-form Foxparke Beep Beep were not among them.
But Ned’s Gain, who lies second just ahead of Beep Beep, chalked up another win by leading them home for his 13th win of the season. That’s 16 behind Huntsman’s Rebel but two ahead of Foxparke Beep Beep.
The open restricted race proved more fruitful for Tony Jackson after his second place in the maidens as Kinniside Dan was successful from Forlorn Spring.
Second place was good enough to take Forlorn Spring just two points behind the grade leader.
The veterans race brought proceedings to a close and Billy Birkett’s General James won from Denis Peare’s and Jackie Gill’s Hawkswood.
General James is now clear in the Veterans Championship by eleven points from his nearest challenger – who just happens to be Hawkswood!
A number of the championships are building up into a climax with several hounds in with chances.
Bookmaker Mark Bryden is offering the following prices on the two main championships – the seniors and pups.
It’s betting without the first three in the puppy table – Huntsman’s Rebel, Ned’s Gain and Foxparke Beep Beep and Mark goes Lady Million (4/6), Rex the Rocket (2/1), Huntsman’s Tally (9/4).
In the seniors it’s betting without only Duchess Ava and his odds are Jenny’s Quest (4/5), Miterdale Duchess (6/4), Hunter’s Flame (5/2) and Miterdale Dusk (10/1).
