Carlisle United now have an unofficial supporters club in Kenya thanks to its support for a national charity.
United fan Paul Moffat initiated the club’s backing for the Future of Taru project – a small UK Registered Charity.
The charity which provides a school, quality education, a feeding programme, emotional support and a safe environment for many of the poor children in Taru, Kenya.
After speaking to Paul, the United press officer Amy Nixon set about gathering together old kits and clothing before bagging it up for transportation to Taru, to be distributed amongst the children.
Paul said: “I am now in Kenya and have distributed to our pupils and teachers what the club has kindly sent. I still have lots more kit to distribute in the next week or so.
“It can’t be put into words just how much it means to everybody over here, particularly the children, who are now very proud to be United supporters.”
All of the children Paul and Eunice Moffat look after are living in poverty.
As well as providing protection from the dangers of the streets, the charity ensures local children receive a quality education and food every day in a happy and open environment, transforming their lives and giving them hope for a better future while supporting their families to make life progress.
Amy said: “We look to send kits and clothing to Africa every summer, and this was a perfect charity to support as far as we were concerned.
“Paul told us about the children and families in Taru, and we wanted to help. It’s fantastic to know that we have helped a very worthy cause and some wonderful people.
“Some of the kits donated came from our recent kit amnesty, so those fans who gave us their old shirts can see from this just how much of a positive impact that simple act of kindness from them can have.”
