Carlisle City start the defence of the County Cup tonight when they host Westmorland League side Braithwaite.
Manager Jim Nichols says he will use the first round tie to give game time to players who haven’t been involved a lot.
Braithwaite are in the Third Division of the Westmorland League and have won three of their four games so far with one defeat. They did not play on Saturday.
City will go into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Tow Law in the Northern League First Division.
Nichols said: “There wasn’t a lot in the game really and we came home thinking we should have got something out of it.
“It’s fine margins though. We had been in a good attacking position when the move broke down and they broke three against three. We did well to block the first effort but the rebound sat up really nicely for their guy to stick away.
“Robbie Ivison hit the bar for us and then Jordan Irving had a goal disallowed, supposedly for coming back from an offside position. I’ve watched it back and he was never offside at any time so I don’t know why he was flagged.
“At the present though we are not doing enough to win football matches. The biggest thing is we are not scoring goals and we scored 114 last season in 40 games.
“We do feel there are goals in the team and I would be more worried if we weren’t creating chances. It’s not as if we are a million miles away and I’m hopeful we can get back to winning ways at West Auckland on Saturday.
“In the meantime we have Braithwaite in the County Cup on Tuesday and I’m looking forward to seeing lads who have been on the side-lines pushing their claims.”
