Plans to extend the life of a South Cumbrian windfarm have been submitted.
The six-turbine Armistead windfarm, which sits to the east of the M6 between junctions 36 and 37, has been operational since 2013.
It was originally given permission to run for 25 years, but operators Banks Renewables wants to extend its lifespan for an extra 15 years after a review of its performance.
It said no new turbines would be added and all the existing planning conditions it operates under would remain the same.
Banks Renewables’ application has been lodged with South Lakeland District Council and is expected to be considered in the new year.
The windfarm generated more than 25,000 MWh of green electricity during Banks Renewables’ last financial year, which is enough to meet the annual electrical requirements of over 8,000 homes, the company said.
It is also responsible for an annual £14,000 benefits fund for community groups and green projects and the firm said this would also be extended if it was given permission.
