Hot on the heels of a travel trade exhibition in Tokyo, one of Cumbria’s leading tourism operators has launched a fresh campaign to help bring overseas business back to the county for 2023.
Lake District Estates owns the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway and Ullswater ‘Steamers’, as well as several caravan parks, marina holiday apartments and shops operating as ‘Peter Rabbit and Friends’.
It was the only Cumbrian company to attend the recent Tourism EXPO Japan 2022, a major four-day event bringing together professionals from the world’s tourism and travel-related industries. The team focused on speaking with overseas travel buyers and reinforcing the Lake District’s long-standing popularity with the Japanese.
Lake District Estates is now forging ahead with a series of high-profile events and exhibitions over the next four months. Next on the list is The Global European Marketplace in London on November 3 and 4, hosted by the European Travel Association (ETOA). That will be followed by a virtual European Travel Marketplace targeting East and South-East Asia later next month.
The potential schedule for early 2023 also includes a VisitBritain India Mission, as well as British and Ireland Marketplace, a virtual European Travel Marketplace focusing on North America and the British Tourism and Travel Show in Birmingham.
Head of marketing and business development at Lake District Estates, Rachel Bell, “These events are vital for not only reinforcing our existing commercial partnerships, but also establishing and developing business in new markets.
“Tourism EXPO Japan was an important foundation for the ongoing work we’re doing with overseas markets as we continue to build momentum and build back the confidence of international visitors following the pandemic.”
