Two men accused of burgling a Lake District shop and stealing bikes worth over £30,000 have appeared in court.
Harry Curran, 33, and James Easterbrook, 41, were charged after late night incidents both in Keswick and outside of Cumbria earlier this week.
Both Curran and Easterbrook appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today.
The men jointly face one charge of burglary. This alleged that they entered a commercial property, e-venture Bikes, Keswick, as trespassers and stole bikes valued at £30,198.
Curran faces a second charge which alleges the dangerous driving of a Ford Transit van on roads in Lancashire, including the M6 motorway. It is alleged by the prosecution there was a high speed police pursuit and allegedly “dangerous” overtakes of two vehicles, including an ambulance.
The alleged offences are said to have been committed during the course of several hours just before midnight on Wednesday, October 5.
During a short court hearing in front of magistrates neither Curran, of Wicker Street, Tower Hamlets, nor Easterbrook, of Cable Street, both London, entered pleas to the charges they respectively face.
After hearing an outline of the allegations, magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court.
The two men are due to appear there in front of a judge for a plea and case management hearing on November 4. In the meantime, they were both remanded in custody.
