Cyclists from as far away as Yorkshire and Lincolnshire travelled to Carlisle for some very competitive racing on Saturday.
Carlisle Cycling Association and the Ribble rechrg Race Team promoted two competitions, both consisting of a 5km Time Trial and a one hour bunch Circuit race.
The weather was kind to the riders, remaining dry and bright throughout the day, though a strong breeze in the back straight posed some challenges.
The Regional A race was dominated by youth, with 17-year-old Jude Davison, of Dearham, setting the pace in the Time Trial, completing the five laps in a winning time of six minutes 56 seconds.
Two junior riders also led the way in the bunch race with Otley CC’s Sam Hollis and Matthew Cole of the BCC Race Team lapping the field. They took the first two places overall with Jude Davison completing the podium.
In fact the first six riders were all under 20, with junior John Bardsley of Lancaster in fourth place and under 23’s Harry Paveley from Yorkshire and local lad Ed Moss in 5th and 6th respectively.
The premier event of the day, the National B race with a strong field of first and second category riders, was a success for the sponsoring team.
Ribble rechrg’s Dan Kain won the Time Trial in an impressive 6 minutes 36 seconds and his team-mate Hugo Lutz-Atkinson had a convincing win in the Circuit race, which also secured him the overall victory.
The consistent Toby Bartlett of Doddington CC split the two Ribble rechrg team mates on the final podium.
Prizes were presented by Keith Atkinson, Ribble rechrg team manager who also awarded a special prize for Endeavour and Sportsmanship to TS Racing’s Mark Hansom.
Mr Atkinson thanked the local organisers and paid tribute to the quality of events at Carlisle over the season, expressing a hope to be involved in more races at the Circuit going forwards.
