Winterfell stayed in the hunt for the HTA senior championship with another win at Millstone Moor.

But it was more bad news for long time leader Duchess Ava who has struggled after an injury and was out of the tickets again.

Jenny’s Quest, the current leader, did not run but there are likely to be some head-to-heads between them before the title is decided back at Millstone Moor on October 31.

Cracking Last One Two was sent off the evens favourite after her win at Seaton on Saturday.

However, when they came into view it was hard to tell as three light-coloured hounds were together.

Once they got through the penultimate field and over the last gate it was Winterfell in front, having gained a few yards on Kirkhead Rebel with Cracking Last One Two in third.

Brian and Joy Lister with Lady Million, winner of the Open Pups at Dearham.

Coming up the hill Winterfell hung on to win at nice odds of 5/1 to the obvious delight of connections who had seen him beaten on the line at the week-end.

That win puts Winterfell just a point behind Duchess Ava and three behind Jenny’s Quest.

With two more trails at Millstone Moor for Winterfell to have a go at, and three at Buttermere where he and Jenny’s Quest like running, the title is still up for grabs.

Huntsman’s Rebel has had the puppy championship sewn up for a while now and she was among 17 runners for the junior trail.

She went off the even money favourite with both Silver Streak and Lady Million at 5/2.

As the hounds came into view behind the farm there were plenty in with a shout.

When they navigated the wall and then the final gate it was Lady Million who had gained an advantage from Silver Streak with Huntsman’s Rally in third.

That was the order they finished with Lady Million a clear winner and the other two with just a yard between them. Huntsman’s Rebel was unplaced.

The last race, on a day when the weather had been great for both hounds and spectators, saw 18 contest the open restricted.

Silver Dancer and Denton Shamrock were 5/2 joint favourites but as they showed and started to climb up the finish it was Alan O’Fee’s Barncroft Express who was a yard in front of Oakbank Izzy and held on to repeat Saturday’s win at Seaton.

Consolation for Oakbank Izzy was she is now five points clear in the open restricted grade.
