Billy Waters can’t stop scoring and as a result Barrow have moved into fourth place in League Two.
Hotshot Waters grabbed all three goals at Holker Street last night as the Bluebirds beat bottom side Colchester United 3-1.
Waters, a close season recruit who had followed manager Pete Wild from Halifax, had scored in each of the two previous wins last week.
The 28-year-old was achieving something a Barrow player hadn’t managed for over 50 years – score a hat-trick in the Football League.
The last to do so was Dave Storf who scored three against Bradford City at Valley Parade on April 8, 1970.
Barrow had dominated the first-half to lead 2-0 at the break with Waters finishing off in the 22nd and 25th minutes/
The first was a simple finish when he got on the end of George Ray’s flick on to Ben Whitfield’s corner
The second was from another corner but this time it needed an acrobatic finish to beat Colchester keeper Sam Hornby.
The hat-trick was completed in the first minute of the second-half when he reacted well to finish a flick on by Niall Canavan.
Barrow continued to dominate but were unable to add to their tally and manager Wild would be disappointed to concede late on when Freddie Sears grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors.
