Bonfire Night 2022: Where you can go to celebrate

Bonfire Night celebrations are back with a bang for 2022! There are events happening across the county to mark Guy Fawkes Night.

Here are a selection put together by travel firm Stagecoach – which you can get to without a car – and we want to know what else is going on in Cumbria? Email us at [email protected] with all the details and we’ll include it!

Carlisle Fireshow, Bitts Park

  • Bus route: Multiple services
  • Bus stop: West Tower Street

The city’s popular fire show returns for the 33rd time and the first since 2019.

This year’s event is part of the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival, celebrating the 1,900th anniversary of the wall, and will be held in Bitts Park from 6.30pm on Saturday, November 5. The centrepiece bonfire will be Roman-themed with more than 2,000 fireworks lighting up the sky. More than 35,000 people are expected to attend.

It’s all free or you can watch from the Lookout at nearby Tullie House where a hot buffet will be available.

Parkfoot Holiday Park, Pooley Bridge

  • Bus stop: Pooley Bridge, outside the Crown Inn

TJ’s Bar and Restaurant will be hosting a bonfire and firework display at Parkfoot Holiday Park on Saturday, November 5. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm with fireworks from 7.30pm and live music from 8pm. For details and bookings see Parkfoot’s Facebook page and https://parkfootullswater.co.uk/tjs-restaurant/

Hawcoat Park Sports Club, Hawcoat Lane, Barrow

  • Bus route: 1
  • Bus stop: Wheatclose Road and Hawcoat Lane

The sports park is home each year to a large bonfire and fireworks display, one of the most spectacular displays in the area, attracting thousands of visitors. There are stands selling hot food and drinks, and a bar. See http://hawcoatpark.com/event/bonfire-fireworks-display/

Hayes Garden Centre, Ambleside

  • Bus route: 505, 516, 555 and 599
  • Bus stop: Hayes Garden Centre

Hayes Garden World in Ambleside allows visitors to combine a fireworks display with a bit of Christmas shopping. Enjoy a spectacular professional show, some food to warm you up and the opportunity to buy goods from the centre’s Christmas shop at a discounted rate on Thursday, November 3 from 6pm to 9pm.

Light up the Night, Derwent Park, Workington

  • Bus route: 30, 50 and 300
  • Bus stop: Tesco and Viaduct Hotel

Workington Town Council hosts a fireworks display on Sunday, November 6 at 6pm at the home of Workington Town Rugby League Club. An addition to this year is a fireshow by Matrix Circus which will start at 5.30pm. The show will start at 6pm and last around 20 minutes. Food and drink stalls will be available on site throughout.

Please note, this is a ticketed event only. No entry without a ticket and this event is now sold out.

Cockermouth

  • Bus route: X4, X5
  • Bus stop: Main Street and Aldi

Another fireworks event returning for the first time in three years having been cancelled because of the pandemic in 2020 and then flooding last year.

This year it takes place in Memorial Gardens on Sunday, November 6, from 5pm to 6.30pm.

Coniston Sports & Social Centre

  • Bus route: 505
  • Bus stop: The Crown Inn

Enjoy the annual bonfire night celebrations on Friday, November 4. The bonfire will be lit at 6pm followed by fireworks from 7pm and live music by Marc Atkinson from 9pm. Entry by donation.
