Eight bouts of boxing provided the latest action put on by the Just Grind promotion at Lillyhall.
In front of 300 fans, the second event of the year was billed as Clash of the Titans and produced a very special moment for Workington’s Shane Roe.
Against Nathan Delsall of Halifax, Roe had him down on the canvas very quickly in the bout and was soon declared the winner on a technical KO.
That takes his boxing record to 10-0 which is a first for the Just Grind promotion.
Just Grind have been putting on fight nights for 10 years, proving very popular with their War in Workington shows, which were mainly Mixed Martial Arts.

The plan is to revive a War in Workington event for March next year.

This latest fight extravaganza was boxing only and featured a number of local fighters with visitors competing from Carlisle and Yorkshire.
Arguably the fight of the night involved Ollie Scott and Martin Smith, two Workington fighters who gave it everything, going hammer and tongs from the start.

The unanimous decision of the judges, however, was that Scott earned the verdict through landing more punches than his gritty opponent.
Even tighter was the bout between Mike Moore and Richard Hodgson, two more Workington fighters, who couldn’t be separated and shared a drawn decision.

Moore had started the first round strongly with Hodgson on the back foot and doing well to survive but the second round proved a bit different. Hodgson went toe to toe with his opponents and might have gone on to force a knockdown but for the bell.

There were no knockdowns in a tight final round and the judges couldn’t separate the pair.
Ryan Bates of Workington was judged to have taken all three rounds against Kofi Marshall of Bradford and took the decision.
It was a similar story in the clash between Workington’s Gary Taylor and Jimmy Wilson of Carlisle with the West Cumbrian dominating the fight to win on a unanimous decision.

Logan Smith of Workington scored an early knockdown against Halifax opponent Ant Harrison and was then awarded a technical KO.
It wasn’t a very good night for the Yorkshire visitors as Ben Disson (Halifax) suffered an early knockdown and a technical KO against Lewis Bragg of Workington.

Proceedings had started with an exhibition bout between Shane Winder (Workington) and Jordan Taylor (Workington) from which proceeds were donated to the Bee Unique Autism charity. It was scored as a draw.
