The new owner of a Carlisle hotel has revealed he plans to open an Indian restaurant on the premises.
The Pinegrove Hotel, on London Road, was on the market for £750,000 earlier this year. An earlier bid to buy it had fallen through.
It had been run by the Middleton family since 2003, with the younger generation taking the reins after their father’s death in 2019.
Chris Middleton said: “After managing to steer the business through the pandemic, we decided it was finally time to pass the hotel on to someone else.”
Chris and his sister Sophie Middleton decided to market the hotel as they wished to get back to their careers.
Now, the Middletons have sold the 25-bedroom hotel to Karpal Singh Sohal.
Karpal already has plans to build on the existing trade, he said.
He said: “We will continue to have the bar open to non-residents and we have plans of opening an Indian restaurant.to add favour and culture to the hotel.
“The main hotel building was built in 1877 and we will be retaining its grand posture and the existing original features including the beautiful stained glass window on the first floor landing.
“The architecture really adds to the atmosphere that we want to curate at Pinegrove Hotel to give customers a fantastic experience.”
Chris added: “We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years, and we wish the new owners all the best for the future.”
Besides accommodation, which accounts for over 40 per cent of trade, the hotel has a function room and meeting room and is able to cater for business meetings, conferences, private functions and parties.
The bar and restaurant, which can accommodate around 60 covers.
