Rock legend Brian May has praised a Cumbrian photographer’s image of a wave capturing his likeness.
Gary McKeating, of Harrington, took the photo of the immense wave crashing onto a sea wall in Harrington and spotted the resemblance afterwards.
After the image went viral on social media, May himself took to his official Instagram and website to share praise for the Workington photographer. He said: “See anything unusual? Surf’s definitely up! Thanks Gary McKeating – how did you capture this moment? And to Amanda Perkins and Mark Taylor for alerting me.”
The image captures a clear watery likeness of May’s side profile leaning back, complete with his iconic big hair.
Some fans on social media were also quick to point out that the uncanny snap looks as though he were playing a guitar solo.

Gary told The Mirror: “I always check waves for faces or animals as a bit of fun. In the past I’ve had pictures that showed the water looking like dogs and swans. At first I thought this one looked like a lover’s embrace, but I can see Brian May in there.”
He added that he enjoys shooting landscapes in and around the west coast of Cumbria and that patience is important. He said: “Sometimes you have to wait a long time for a great photo but it is worth it.”
