Ewe have to hand it to the brave volunteers who risk their own lives saving people in trouble on the Lake District mountains.
But just sometimes, rescues don’t go to plan – just ask Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.
In this brilliant social media post – we just couldn’t do it justice without reproducing it in full – the team explains how a favour to rescue a stuck sheep wasn’t as straightforward as it could have been…..
“Ewe will already know that our rescues can come in all sheeps and sizes. Today a few members of the team volunteered to help a local farmer as one of their stock had found itself cragfast on Kern Knotts.
“It was fantastic to return a favour for Burnthwaite Farm and further build our relationsheep. It’s also a good opportunity to practice some rope work and as a bonus enjoy the tremendous autumn weather today.
“Predictably, as the first team member was lowered on a rope, the sheep decided she could self-rescue after all and hopped to safety.
“Ewe could say she became a woolly jumper. Instead of offering the team a warm look of thanks, she immediately turned on her heels to the nearest grassy patch to tuck into her first meal in a few days. Happily she was alive and wool.
“I’m sure ewe’d all agree that the team members out today should enjoy a well deserved drink at the baa this evening.
“PS You won’t believe how long it took to come up with this…normal service will thankfully be resumed with the next official callout!”
