Workington Conservative Club moved ominously to the top of Division One in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League with 5-0 drubbing of Division Two’s Workington Golf Club B.
Winning the first in quick fashion Richard McCarthy made it 1-0 and as teammates Julian Plaza and Alan Moore presided in equally rapid style the away side went 3-0 up, limiting the golfer’s to just 25 points in total in the process.
The remaining two frames of the match saw the golf club B side offer a little more resistance, however, it was all in vain as Ryan Barker and Dave Holland completed the whitewash to top the Division One table on 18 points.
Workington Golf Club B prop up Division Two on just 2 points.
Workington Golf Club A may have slipped into a Division One second place on match wins but they maintained momentum on the back of a 4-1 victory at Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.
Ryan Ismay proved triumphant in a one-sided first frame to put his team in front and Mark Brasted won a black ball fight in the second.
The third saw Stephen Jackson win convincingly and with Bryan Walker adding to this in the next a golf club whitewash looked on the cards.
This, however, didn’t fit with Peter McAvoy’s plans and with a break of 32 he took the final frame for the Whitehaven side to nick a point. Workington Golf Club A are on a Division One 18 points total with the Rack Shack staying third in Division Two on 8 points.
Flimby Social stretched their lead at the top of Division Two to five points with a 4-1 win at their closest rivals, Workington’s Station Road Club.
A black ball win for Tom Thompson gave the home side the ideal start, but Paul Vickers took the next for Flimby to pull it back to 1-1.
A Michael ‘Sid’ Walker victory in third put the Social side further in front and with team-mates Richard Kirkham taking the fourth Flimby moved into an unassailable 3-1 lead.
The final frame of the match looked to be heading in the direction of Station Road, but with a re-spotted black victory it was Flimby captain Geoff Banton who emphasised the win and enabled his team to move to a 15-point league total.
Station Road Club remain second on 10 points.
Finally, Workington’s Veterans Club travelled to Maryport Social Club and with a hard-fought win the Division One side went home with a 3-2 victory.
A 36 break by Vets captain Kevin Basnett was enough to put his team 1-0 up, before Maryport came right back with a win for Andrew Sharp in the second.
Gary Miller ensured the Social outfit took the lead with a win in the third but as the Vets took the next a decider was needed to split the two teams.
Needing the last few balls Mark Tatton displayed calmness personified to deliver the Vets win but not without giving his teammates some panic by leaving the white hanging over the middle pocket after potting the final black.
Vets remain bottom of Division One on 10 points and Maryport stay fourth in Division Two on six points.
