‘England’s game was awesome’ say Workington Reds fans in Qatar for World Cup

Six West Cumbrian fans in Qatar for the World Cup have been sending their thoughts back home to friends.

So far everything appears to be positive, both on and off the field for the six members of the Workington Reds Independent Supporters Club.

They flew out to watch England’s opening game against Iran on Monday and will follow up with the USA game on Friday.

Daniel McMinn, Liam Irving and Callum Sutton are staying with Robbie Lambert, a former Workington cricket captain currently working in Qatar as a sports teacher.

“It’s been class so far, proving to be a great place. Everything in the media in the run-up to the tournament has been negative and putting-off people but the reality has been the reverse.

“The hospitality has been really good and everyone is friendly,” said Liam.

Kieran Irving, Callum Holliday and Liam McCullough Are staying in a nearby apartment.

“The game was awesome with both Bellingham and Saka really unreal. The first half was outstanding from England. And there’s no shortage of beer, it’s readily available,” said Kieran.
