Whitehaven laid on a special day of girls’ rugby at the LEL Arena, attended by stars from the women’s game.
The day was part of the HerLegacy campaign in conjunction with the National Lottery with England World Cup stars Jodie Cunningham and Georgia Wilson sharing their knowledge and skills.
Joining them were former Wigan Warrior and England international Claire Hall, along with Whitehaven’s recent recruit from Workington Jamie Doran.
The sessions were of 45 minutes duration and for different age groups, ranging from five to eight years old, when 11 youngsters took part and for nine to 12-year-olds which involved 18 girls.
The final session of the day was for 13 to 16-year-olds with 12 girls joining in.
The sessions consisted of skill work provided by Claire Hall while Jodie Cunningham and Georgia Wilson provided some inspirational speeches.
Haven director Ashley Kilpatrick said: “Everyone enjoyed the sessions and the club has received lots of good feedback.
“Jodie and Georgia stressed what can be achieved in rugby league by the girls highlighting the great success of the Women’s World Cup.
“Whitehaven RLFC would like to put on record our thanks to Claire, Jodie, Georgia and Jamie for their time taking the sessions and signing autographs and having pictures taken in typical Cumbrian weather!”
