The 2022 Marmalade Awards raised almost £30,000 for Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.
Organisers of the unique event handed over a cheque for £28,617.67p to the charity, which provides support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
The 2022 Marmalade Awards were a huge hit with marmalade makers from around the world raising £28,617.67. Organisers of this unique event were delighted to present Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland with a cheque for this amazing amount.
The Rev David Wood, chair of trustees of Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland, said: “Hospice at Home wants to thank the Marmalade Festival for another magnificent contribution to our work in north Cumbria. It is very encouraging to have such continued support so thank you to everyone involved at Dalemain.”
The cheque was handed over in front of Dalemain Mansion, with representatives from Hospice at Home including Mr Wood and Mike Clementson. With a host of volunteer marmalade supporters who give up their time to enable this astonishing amount of money to be raised.
Many of them have supported the awards since their creation, and Jane Hasell-McCosh, founder of the Dalemain World Marmalade Awards, said: “It is wonderful to think that in spite of the pandemic and the difficulties in the world our marmalade community has had another incredibly successful competition.
“The standards keep on getting better and the marmalade that is being entered now is very good indeed. However, none of this is possible without the generosity of the volunteer committee who help to unwrap, log, judge and arrange the displays”
This donation to Hospice at Home launches the 2023 Marmalade Awards and festival. Entries can be sent to Dalemain Mansion from Monday January 2 to Sunday February 5.
The Marmalade Festival will take place on Saturday April 22. Sunday April 23 will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to enjoy a cooked breakfast with a choice of 1,000 marmalades to spread on their toast.
