Whitehaven dominated possession at the Playground, but Creighton made them work hard for their 20-6 win in Counties 1 Cumbria.
After a scoreless 20 minutes the home side took the lead with some clever inter-passing in the three quarters to score out wide through Shaun Sutton.
Creighton responded swiftly with a George Dudley penalty, before Haven scored again with a carbon copy of the first try but this time touched down by Phil Southam. With both tries unconverted it was 10-3 at the break.
Throughout the game scrum half Dean Lambert put pressure on Whitehaven’s scrum feed, forcing any possession to be scrappy, whilst some clever chips from stand off Ben Jordan created several chances. Dudley then closed the gap with a further penalty.
A deliberate knock on gave the West Cumbrians an opportunity to take a quick tap penalty to cross in the corner through Callum Tunstall, followed by one further try in the last play of the match by Jordan Scott. Again, both Whitehaven tries went unconverted.
