
As temperatures drop, hundreds of low income households across Cumbria are in line for a cash boost.
Eligible families in Carlisle, Shap and Walney Island will automatically get the £25 cold weather payment to help with fuel bills – but only if they meet the criteria.
The payments – £25 for each seven-day period – are made where areas experience continuous below zero temperatures and are paid out to people receiving the following benefits:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Support for Mortgage Interest
The areas in Cumbria that are eligible so far are:
- Carlisle – postcodes CA1-CA8, DG12, DG16
- Shap – postcodes CA10-CA12, CA16-CA17, LA8-LA10, LA21-LA23
- Walney Island – postcodes LA1, LA3-LA5, LA11-LA20
