Barrow Raiders’ experienced forward Dan Toal will be out of action for up to nine months after successfully undergoing knee surgery.
Toal, who reached 200 appearances for the Raiders earlier this year, hasn’t featured since the club’s 40-6 win against Whitehaven in July.
In total last season, he scored four tries and made 16 appearances, 11 of which came from the bench.
He has since had both his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) reconstructed, plus repairs to two menisci.
Following surgery, the 33-year-old was in a leg brace, which was taken off at the beginning of last week.
Toal is expected to miss much of the 2023 Betfred Championship season.
A Barrow spokesman said: “We wish Dan the very best of luck on his road to recovery, and will provide him with all the support he needs during his time on the side-lines.”
