A severely neglected dog found wandering under a Carlisle bridge has been nursed back to health by a band of dedicated volunteers.
The West Highland terrier was found in October with huge chunks of his fur missing by a passer-by under the Eastern Way road bridge on Durranhill Road.
A vet who examined him said his condition – caused by a skin infection – was among the worst she had ever seen.
Volunteers called him Yogi.
Now, the RSPCA West Cumbria branch say thanks to an amazing vet team and his foster mum, he is ready to be rehomed.
Ally Chester, of the RSPCA branch, said: “He was really very poorly for a while, having to be on all sorts of medication and treatments.
“As of right now he just needs eye drops, and to be bathed with medicated shampoo once a week, just to keep his skin, fur and ears in the tip top condition that they’re in. He may need oral medication to help his skin at intermittent times in the future. For this reason we’re looking for a financially secure home – well, as secure as they come these days.
“He’s house trained, but as he has poor eyesight, which is a direct result of the neglect he’s suffered, he’ll need to be taken outside regularly to use the facilities, it won’t be enough to just open the back door to a secure garden and expect him to make his own way out.”
Yogi has bowed front legs, but Ally said they are no longer a hindrance to his mobility.

She added: “He’s a very sweet little guy, he’s good with children, very gentle. He’s great with other dogs and is currently sharing his foster home with his very own pack!
“Yogi is an all round friendly, brilliant, wonderful boy who just needs a cosy home with someone around most of the day to provide company and comfort.”
