The thaw is coming but almost certainly too late to save the majority of tomorrow’s rugby union fixtures – unless clubs have artificial surfaces.
Which means that the Cumbrian derby in Regional 2 North between Penrith and Aspatria will go ahead.
Penrith are flying high in second place with only one defeat so far, at home to Middlesbrough early in the season while Aspatria have risen positively up the table.
It is a League with a distinct split – top six and bottom six – with Aspatria currently having the best record of the lower six. It’s back to school almost with the Upper Sixth and the Lower Sixth!
Penrith were comfortable winners 48-17 when the two sides met at Bower Park a month into the new season.
The other two Cumbrian sides in Regional 2 North should be at home tomorrow but prospects don’t look good for Carlisle, who host Consett and Keswick who have an attractive date with Middlesbrough.
In Regional 2 North West bottom side Kirkby Lonsdale have the unenviable task of trying to earn their first point at leaders Blackburn. They lost the home fixture 90-7.
Kendal can put more distance between themselves and Kirkby Lonsdale’s fellow strugglers Burnage. The Mint Bridge side won the home fixture 69-14 when they met at the end of September and are currently 12 points better off than the Manchester side.
No Counties 1 Cumbria fixtures were due but Whitehaven and Workington had agreed to play their game which was postponed a few weeks ago, unless the weather intervenes.
